I love world-building tales. It takes amazing talent to create cohesive elements to build a world - ecology, economy, political systems, education, occupations, faiths, geology, and a vision for a better humanity.Beyond the world-building, this is a coming of age story. Our hero is becoming ever more concerned about the dangers facing humanity, the fate of his mother and friends. He's as reckless as ever. So we go on a series of wild flights and adventures. It's actually a lot of fun.
More than that, there are references to artists or philosophers that had me doing some digging to see if they really exist. This book had me thinking and researching as I read along. (Goodness, I do love electronic media!)
More than that, this is a thought-provoking tale. What happens when good intentions generate uncontrollable and unpleasant results?
Are the good intentions justifications for the resulting devastation?
(Kind of reminds me of being a child. I tried to do helpful things - but they sometimes went wrong.
No one asked me WHY I did those things. If they had, they might have laughed instead of reprimanded.
(there are some funny stories)
Is the master android really evil? Or just doesn't understand. It seems he wants the best for humanity - but under his control. Like many (in)human politicians who think they know the best for us.

It is a really good book. It has so some scientific vocabulary that warns of side effects of science. I enjoyed reading about the adventures of Lazer, Kyla, and Cashton.
Such a captivating and excellent read her books have been. This one is great as well!
Exciting, compelling. Couldn't put it down! Itching to discuss a major plot twist, but won't spoil it. The saga continues. Can't wait until Book 3!
Pratt takes us on a spectacular journey following three friends on their path to become the heroes needed to rally the leaders of Earth to save the planet and humanity. But what makes The Academy (THE VISION QUEST) (Volume 2) such a delight to read is Pratt’s talent for invention of a world that explores the magical boundaries between fantasy and science fiction, the evolution of the spiritual world and philosophical issues like the human condition.
When I sat down to read The Vision Quest, I thought I was going to be reading another sci-fi action thriller. To my surprise, I found the book took sci-fi to a whole other level when the biological robots developed feelings that made them want to destroy mankind. They went sentient and, like we humans, became driven to survive in a changing world. The future world the author has created is fascinating and the characters that live in it are compelling and identifiable. Understanding their inner conflicts leads us to a reflection on our own humanity. All of the interesting characters and their personal struggles hooked me and waiting for this second book in the series was painful but worth the wait! Can't believe I now have to wait for the rest of the books in the series. It's bringing out my human quality of "impatience." I can't wait to see where these characters are going and who they and what their fascinating world will ultimately become! This is a journey and I'm loving it!!
